Winter humpbacks, gray whales, dolphins, albatross Monterey and Santa Cruz

Saturday 12/15 we ventured offshore to find a small group of active humpback whales, got some good looks. Then had a second pod of whales close to Santa Cruz on the way back in to port. And a Black-footed Albatross!

There are about 8-12 late-season humpback whales who have been spending time near Santa Cruz and zig-zagging through Monterey Bay.

Also active in the Bay: Risso’s dolphins, migrating gray whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, sea lions and birds. Gorgeous winter vistas of the sea and mountains.
