WEEKEND REPORT ~ March 19, 2019
The first groups of humpbacks have moved into the Bay for their spring-summer feeding season! There's a lot of bait around the canyon, and they seem to be going after it. We are also still seeing gray whales heading northbound! While predicting surface behaviors, like breaching, is nearly impossible, the whales in the bay seem to be playful this weekend!
Friday: one gray whale, 4-5 humpback whales close to the boat, one breaching whale!
Saturday: 20-30 Risso’s dolphins up the coast, 8-9 gray whales, 3 breaching gray whales!
Sunday: 8-9 humpback whales surfacing close to the boat, colony of sea otters near the harbor.
Monday: a single male killer whale was spotted today!! 4-6 humpbacks, one breached multiple times, and waved its pectoral flippers.
Join us this weekend! Whale Watching trips going Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10:30am, March 23-24. Beautiful Monterey Bay!
