Sept. 26th, part 2: Along with all the lunge-feeding Humpback Whales we saw on Monday we also found multiple groups of dolphins! First, we found a nursery pod of Risso’s Dolphins, then later we came across a larger group of Risso’s Dolphins that ended up having half a dozen Northern Right Whale Dolphins with them! These dolphins are shaped like a dark torpedo, they have no dorsal fin and are extremely fast! Lucky for us they love to bow-ride, so we got some amazing looks at them! Finally, we also saw a Harbor Porpoise, which is the second smallest cetacean in the world! (Adults average 4-6 feet) To put that in perspective, an adult Harbor Porpoise is about the same size as a newborn Risso’s Dolphin!
