July 7th: Santa Cruz Whale Watching saw Humpback Whales, Sea Otters, Jellies and birds!
July 6th: We found about 8 Humpback Whales including “Rastrillos” and “Bottlenose” & her calf! We also saw thousands of jellies (4 different species), a few massive Mola-Molas and the “Shark Week” blimp!
July 5th: We saw at least 9 large Ocean Sunfish (Mola-Mola) on our trip! We also found three Humpback Whales in the fog. They were showing surface behaviors. We think possibly it was 2 males showing off for a female.
July 4th: Happy 4th everyone! We got great looks at two well-known juvenile Humpback Whales (“Rastrillos” and HW-MN0502209) that were seen socializing together for the first time! “Rastrillos” even did some pectoral fin-slapping for us! We also saw some other Humpback Whales and California Sea Lions, but the most interesting part of our trip is the second to last photo! The captain and I believe we may have seen a basking shark fin, although as we tried to approach it descended down so we didn’t get a great look at the body! (Photos are on our Facebook page)
