October 17th: (Part 2) The adult Humpback Whales from the competitive group, cuddling jellies (moon jelly and pacific sea nettle) and hundreds of porpoising California Sea Lions!
October 17th: (Part 1)
20+ Humpback Whales, including an active, competitive group that hung out right next to our boat for a while! The competitive group consisted of “La Flor” and her male calf “Nitro” along with 4-5 adult Humpback Whales (most likely males) trailing them! The calf “Nitro” was showing off, breaching and other surface behaviors!
October 16th:
Humpback Whale mom and calf pair. The calf breached a bunch of times while mom was sleeping! We also saw two tiny Blue Sharks! Lots of jellies, Sea Lions and seabirds also.
October 15th:
Active Humpback Whales, (tail throws, tail slaps and pec slapping), a Steller Sea Lion and we found a shark offshore near some of the whales (possibly either a blue shark or short fin mako; was hard to tell with the overcast conditions).
October 14th:
15+ Humpback Whales, including “Flopsy” and “Dragon”, two older females who decided to pop up right next to the boat!
October 13th: Humpback Whales! We found them right outside the Santa Cruz Harbor, then found more over Monterey Bay trench, then more breaching & feeding!
